International Baccalaureate
First IB program in Miami-Dade County. 29 courses available. 92% diploma passing rate vs. 81% world average. Signature programs include IB CavCamp for freshmen, Boot Camp for sophomores, Pinning Ceremony for juniors, and Senior Brunch.
Advanced Placement
26 AP courses available. 83% of Gables students passed their AP exams — well above the national average. One of the most robust AP offerings of any public school in South Florida.
Dual Enrollment
19 college courses available while still in high school. Through the Cavaliers Conquer College program, students can earn an Associate in Arts degree before graduation.
Academy of Finance
NAF Distinguished Academy 2016–2024. Partnership with FIU Business Bloomberg Lab. Students participate in real business internships and compete in entrepreneurship challenges — including a 2024 NFTE Southeast Fast Pitch win and Top 10 finish in the Citi Foundation Challenge.

Football Legacy
National titles in 1956, 1964, 1967, 1968, 1969. State champs in 1956, 1963, 1964, 1967, and 1968. The 1967 team was recognized by the FHSAA as the greatest team in Florida history.
Gables alumni in the NFL include Frank Gore, Jonathan Vilma, Darryl Sharpton, Denzel Perryman, Buddy Howell, Al Del Greco, and 15 others.

Tennis Dynasty
18 State Championships in tennis — 1951 through 1972, and again in 2014. One of the most dominant runs in Florida high school sports history.
Plus state titles in swimming, soccer (boys and girls), track, golf, and water polo. Gables athletes have competed at the highest levels in virtually every sport.

75 Years of History
A Timeline of Cavalier Pride
1950 — CGHS opens its doors. Original building costs $1.5M with 63 classrooms, a combined cafeteria-auditorium, and a modern public address system.
1956 — First mythical national football title under Coach Nick Kotys. Tennis team wins its 6th consecutive state championship.
1958 — School rated top 10 in the entire United States. Principal Harry Rath named one of the 5 best principals in America. Swim team dominates with 106 wins and 2 losses over 6 seasons.
1961 — Gables ranked 7th in the nation. Eight students recognized in the Westinghouse Science Talent Search, placing the school 4th in the country.
1963–1969 — Football dynasty: FHSAA state titles in 1963, 1964, 1967, and 1968. National titles in 1964, 1967, 1968, and 1969. The 1967 squad declared greatest team in Florida history. QB Craig Curry — one of the first Black players at CGHS following integration in 1965 — leads the team to an undefeated season.
1965 — Federal integration brings students from closed Carver High School to CGHS. Sports, especially football, become a unifying force. Coach Kotys champions inclusivity.
2007 — FHSAA officially recognizes the 1967 Cavaliers as the greatest team in Florida history. The team featured future Olympic gold medalist Gerald Tinker.
2019 — Friends of Gables High founded. Campus renovations begin. School rating improves from C to A under Principal Dr. Tony Ullivarri.
2024 — CGHS becomes the first public school in Miami-Dade County to field a Girls Beach Volleyball team. Enrollment surpasses 3,000 — highest in the district. Anthony Balboa named principal.
October 24, 2025 — 75th Anniversary Celebration. Honoring 75 years of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and Cavalier pride.
